Biography

1955 Born in Port Pirie.  Attended Catholic schools in Port Pirie. Until 1970. Both parents born in Port Pirie and were heavily involved in sporting and church activities throughout their life.

1973 Matriculation Port Pirie High School.

1974 BHP Whyalla  Worked on the steel mills for a few months.

1974 BHAS Worked at local smelter aprox ten months.

1975 Salisbury Teachers College mid year intake.

1976 Worked at Theodore Bruce Auctions as storeman in Pulteney Street, Adelaide.

1977  Worked on Eyre Peninsula as casual work on farms, shearing sheds, silos.

1981-1991 Shearer.  Working in farmers sheds around Cummins on the Eyre Peninsula.

1991-1994 Bachelor of Social Work with Honours at the University of South Australia.  Whyalla Campus.

March 1995 - June 1995 Port Lincoln Health.  Mental Health Social Worker, Port Lincoln.  Case management.

June 1995 – June 1998. Port Lincoln Health. Mental Health Social Worker.  Streaky Bay.

During this time I was based at Streaky Bay and travelled to Ceduna, Wudinna, and Elliston to provide a Mental Health Service for the Far West of the State.  I was the first Mental Health Worker based in this area.  For two of these years I was working with a Psychiatric Nurse.  The service was based at Streaky Bay and we would travel each day.  This was at a time when Telemedicine was only just coming in and we used it at Ceduna.

June 1998 – October 2000. Port Lincoln Health.  Port Lincoln.  Mental Health Social Worker.

Case Management role.

October 2000 – 2009.  Port Pirie Regional Health. Mental Health Social Worker.  Port Pirie.  

Acting Team Leader for Women’s, Indigenous and Mental Health Team for eight months during this time.

Case management role.  My main focus is on counselling and in the last two years running therapeutic groups.

2003 Joined the ALP and attended monthly meetings at Port Pirie sub branch.  I have assisted with election activities at every election since mainly by handing out how to vote cards. I have always voted Labor and my Father’s family were strong Labor people.

November 2009 Appointed Mental Health Team Leader based in Port Pirie and covering from Port Broughton to Jamestown to Peterborough.

2013 March.  Resigned position of MHTL.

2013 September.  Elected Secretary of the Port Pirie sub branch.
