- Member for Napier
Jon was elected to the South Australian Parliament as the Member for Napier on 15th March 2014.
Prior to being elected, Jon was the Secretary of the Australian Manufacturing Workers Union(Vehicle Division) and the South Australian Labor Party State President. Jon has always had close connections to the northern suburbs of Adelaide and to Holden. As well as working for the AMWU (Vehicle Division) Jon has previously worked in hospitality, natural resources and at Holden.
Jon has lived most of his life in the North raising his family in Craigmore. Jon believes the North is a good place to live and bring up a family.
Jon has spent almost all of his working life protecting the rights of workers in the automotive industry. Jon brings experience in workplace Health and Safety and industrial relations to Parliament and maintains a strong work ethic regularly meeting residents in the electorate on the street corner or at their front door.
Jon’s interests include Education, Health, Natural Resources, Indigenous Lands and supporting local not for profit organisations.
Jon spends most of his time in the electorate out and about with the people and on his days off enjoys catching up with family and friends, watching local sports or traveling with his wife, Wendy.
Founded in 1977, the electorate is named after Sir Thomas Napier (1882-1976), Supreme Court Judge for 43 years, Chief Justice for 25 years, and also Lieutenant-Governor 1942-73 and Chancellor of the University of Adelaide 1948-61.
With an area of 156.1 km2 (60.3 sq mi) the Napier electorate was created for the South Australian House of Assembly in the outer northern suburbs of the Adelaide metropolitan area. The Napier electorate includes the suburbs of Blakeview, Davoren Park, Elizabeth Downs, Evanston South, Kudla, Munno Para, Smithfield and Smithfield Plains along with parts of Craigmore, Evanston Park and Munno Para Downs. The electorate also includes the semi-rural areas of Bibaringa, One Tree Hill, Sampson Flat, Uleybury and Yattalunga, and part of Humbug Scrub.
