Biography

Leesa was first elected to South Australian House of Assembly in the March 2010 election as the Member for Taylor.  She currently holds office as the Minister for Disabilities and Minister for Mental Health and Substance Abuse.

 

She was born in Queensland in 1966 and studied Health Administration at the Queensland University of Technology.

 

Her passion for the community began as a young Guide and continued with her involvement with the scouting movement.  Leesa’s worked in public and private hospitals in Brisbane and at the Repatriation Hospital Daw Park.

 

Leesa was also the founding director of SA Progressive Business Inc. the corporate events arm of the ALP linking the business community and Labor.

 

Leesa has been the Presiding Officer of the SA Parliament Public Works Committee, a member of the Aboriginal Lands Parliamentary Standing Committee, and the Parliamentary Committee on Occupational Safety, Rehabilitation and Compensation and the Economic and Finance Committee.”

Electorate Profile - Taylor

Doris Irene Taylor, MBE. (1901-1968) was instrumental in the establishment of Meals on Wheels, an organisation which prepares and delivers more than one and a quarter million meals annually to aged and infirm South Australians, much of this with considerable voluntary labour. Although Doris Taylor was severely physically handicapped at the age of 7 as a result of an accident, she spent much of her life assisting the aged, ill and needy. Area: approx. 549.8km2 Location: An area located to the north west of the city incorporating residential areas, market gardens and the Edinburgh Airfield. Its northern boundary is now the Light River. History: The district was created at the 1991 redistribution of electoral boundaries.
