Amanda attended state schools in Adelaide, before completing her psychology degree at Flinders University and earning her Masters in Psychology from The University of Adelaide.
During her studies, she was elected President of Flinders’ Student Union while also working with the trade movement, as a union representative and OH&S trainer. Upon graduating, Amanda went into practice as a psychologist, working with GPs in the delivery of mental health care.
Amanda always had an affinity for helping people. This desire escalated from psychology into policy in 2007, when she was elected to the Federal Parliament (winning the seat of Kingston).
She has gone on to be successfully re-elected in 2010, 2013, and 2016. During which time, she was appointed as the Shadow Assistant Minister for Education and the Shadow Assistant Minister for Higher Education.
From day one, Amanda has represented Southern Adelaide families, fighting hard in Canberra to improve access to GPs and health services. She has also helped secure modern broadband facilities and improved local roads.
Amanda’s ‘down’ time is spent in her local community, doing yoga with friends, cheering on her South Adelaide Panthers during footy season, and spending quality time with her husband and two young sons.
