Growing up in a single parent family in the south western suburbs of Adelaide, Katrine understands the value of being part of a community that is connected and inclusive, one where everyone is supported and empowered.
Katrine is driven by a visceral sense of fairness and she deeply believes in equality of opportunity. She strives to amplify the voices of those in the community who most need to be heard.
For most of her working life, Katrine has fought to improve the lives of South Australians. As Secretary of the Australian Services Union SA/NT branch, Katrine worked collectively to secure equal pay for 200,000 community workers. These efforts saw her awarded an Australia Day ‘Women Hold Up Half the Sky’ Award. She is also listed on the South Australian Women’s Honour Roll.
Prior to entering Parliament Katrine was Chief Executive Officer of Together SA and she is a graduate of Flinders University, the Australian Institute of Company Directors and Governor’s Leadership Foundation.
Since 2014, Katrine has been the Member for Reynell, representing the southern suburbs including Christies Beach, Morphett Vale and Reynella. Katrine is the Shadow Minister for Women and the Prevention of Domestic Violence, Shadow Minister for Sport, Recreation and Racing, Shadow Minister for Child Protection and Shadow Minister for Arts.
She previously served as Minister for Disabilities, Assistant Minister to the Premier and Minister Assisting the Minister for Sport and Recreation in the Weatherill Labor Government.
Katrine lives in the south with her family where she is involved in many community groups and activities. She spends her down time with family and friends, at the beach, including patrolling at Christies Beach Surf Lifesaving Club. She is also a local footy commentator, amateur theatre enthusiast and live music fan.
