Steve has lived in the local community his entire life.
Prior to entering Parliament, Steve worked on a factory assembly line, as an underwriter, a policy adviser, a taxi driver and an organiser advocating for workers’ rights in the airline and local government sectors. He was also a member of the board for StatewideSuper, the West Adelaide SANFL Football Club and Thebarton Senior College.
In Parliament, Steve has been a strong advocate for local jobs, fighting off-shoring of call centre work and successfully lobbying for the establishment of the Aircraft Noise Ombudsman. Steve championed greater scrutiny of the live animal export trade and supported a shift to onshore slaughter and meat processing to create more jobs and protect animal welfare.
Steve’s top priority has been to secure an order for twelve locally manufactured submarines, and he will fight hard for working families by ensuring there is access to quality education and health care services.
Steve is opposed to any increase in the GST because it will hurt local families and older Australians on fixed incomes.
Steve is married to Wendy. They have two children, George and Alex, and three grand-children, Stathi, Mia and Lia.
