Upgrading Mount Gambier Hospital

Investing $24 million to upgrade Mount Gambier Hospital:

  • $8 million over three years to upgrade the Emergency Department, increasing capacity, and improving safety and security for staff and patients
  • Doubling the hospital’s mental health unit with six more beds – a $11.4 million investment.
  • $4.6 million to fit out and operate two dedicated drug and alcohol detox beds.

 

Head to Health Mount Gambier

  • The Federal Government has funded a new permanent Head to Health adult mental health service in Mount Gambier, providing free access to quality mental health care for people living in the region.

Urgent Care Clinics (UCCs)

  • The Federal Government is partnering with the Malinauskas Government to open five Medicare UCCs in SA. The Mount Gambier Medicare UCC is now open at Mount Gambier Family Health.

Delivering an extra 24 paramedics and ambulance officers for the region

  • Investing $7.4 million to recruit 24 additional paramedics and ambulance officers to improve ambulance coverage in the South East. (12 paramedics in Mount Gambier, 6 ambulance officers respectively in Mount Gambier and Bordertown).

 

Upgrading Naracoorte Hospital

  • $8 million over four years to fund the first stage of a major redevelopment of the Naracoorte Hospital
  • An additional $1 million committed in the most recent state budget to complete thorough planning works for the next stage of upgrades.

 

End years of uncertainty for Keith and District Hospital

  • Committed $9.75 million over 7 years to provide ongoing funding certainty for the private hospital.
  • We have since worked directly with the private hospital board and the Limestone Coast Local Health Network, and the Keith and District Hospital has now transferred into SA Health under a new Keith Healthcare Hub model, supported by a Community Paramedic and Nurse Practitioner.
