South Australia’s unemployment rate best in the nation for the first time

For the first time, South Australia has the best unemployment rate in the nation, in a stunning sign of the strength of the state’s economy.

Labour Force figures released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) show that South Australia’s unemployment rate is now 3.2 per cent, the lowest it’s been since monthly records began 46 years ago.

This is significantly lower than the national average of 3.7 per cent.

It marks the first time since monthly records began that South Australia’s unemployment rate has been the lowest in the nation.

There are now almost 950,000 people employed in South Australia, the second most on record, only behind November 2023.

There are now almost 50,000 more people employed in South Australia than at the time of the 2022 state election. More than 25,000 of these new jobs are full-time (52 per cent).

It’s further evidence that South Australia’s economy is remaining strong in comparison to the rest of the nation, despite national economic headwinds.

This is truly an historic result, which has never happened before in our state’s history.

We now have the best unemployment rate in the entire country and the lowest rate ever recorded in the state’s history since monthly records began 46 years ago.

South Australia continues to outperform the nation, with the latest employment figures showing we remain relatively robust.

Almost 50,000 more South Australians have a job than at the time of the state election, the majority of those are full time.

This places us in an enviable position as the national economy softens on the back of interest rate rises.
